Borkum Riff

Borkum Riff takes its name from a lighthouse in the North Sea, a landmark Swedish radio listeners knew from the daily weather reports, and the brand has carried that seafaring identity since it launched in Sweden in 1962. It started as a simple coarse-cut blend of Virginia and Burley aimed at American pipe smokers. Sales were slow until the Bourbon Whiskey version arrived at the end of the 1960s and took off in the United States, still the brand’s biggest market. That whiskey blend, along with the Cherry Cavendish and the Original, made Borkum Riff one of the most recognized aromatic pipe tobaccos around: sweet but restrained, in the Scandinavian style. Now made in Denmark under the Scandinavian Tobacco Group, Borkum Riff pipe tobacco remains an easygoing, dependable pouch.
