Bandolero comes from Selected Tobacco, the house Nelson Alfonso built after he designed the packaging for Cuba’s Cohiba Behike. It is the approachable, outlaw-themed line that sits below his ultra-premium Atabey and Byron, and Osados, the daring ones, is one of its smaller vitolas.

An Ecuadorian wrapper covers Peruvian filler under an undisclosed binder, medium in body. Expect cedar, coffee, cocoa and a sweet, earthy spice. At 5 by 42, the petit corona burns cool and even and does not ask for much time.

Two things set it apart from almost anything near its price: it is made in Costa Rica, a rare address for premium cigars, and it leans on Peruvian tobacco, an uncommon filler prized for its dark sweetness. The same hands make Atabey, one of the most expensive cigars in the world.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
