New Release: La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull 10th Anniversary Maduro, Limited to 5,000 Boxes
The Andalusian Bull turns ten with a darker version: Connecticut broadleaf over Dominican tobacco from the 2016 La Canela harvest, in 5,000 boxes of 10.

La Flor Dominicana is marking ten years of the Andalusian Bull with a maduro. It keeps the same 6 1/2 x 52/64 perfecto shape and swaps the original’s Ecuadorian wrapper for a dark Connecticut broadleaf. Underneath is Dominican tobacco from the company’s La Canela farm, from the 2016 harvest. Production is limited to 5,000 boxes of 10, and the cigars start shipping to stores October 7.
La Flor hasn’t published a strength rating for the maduro. Cigar Aficionado smoked an early sample and found it considerably strong, rich and sweet, with a lot of complexity. Our review is coming soon.

Where the Andalusian Bull came from
The story starts in southern Spain. Litto Gomez found a worn old cigar mold there with an unusual shape, brought it home, and the factory copied it. Tony Gomez named the cigar after Andalusia, the region where the mold turned up, and its bullfighting tradition. The cigar was a nod to Litto’s roots: he was born in Spain and raised in Uruguay.
That mold gave the cigar its look. It measures 6 1/2 inches and swells to a 64 ring gauge at its widest, with a tapered head and a bulbous bottom that Cigar Aficionado compares to a salomon. Nothing else in the La Flor line looks like it, and the maduro keeps the shape exactly.
The original Andalusian Bull came out in June 2016 and was named Cigar Aficionado’s No. 1 Cigar of the Year for 2016, with 96 points. It’s still in production, and we keep the original Andalusian Bull in stock. For the anniversary, La Flor has also made a film about the original cigar.

What changes in the maduro
The big change is the wrapper. The original wears Ecuadorian tobacco; the maduro uses a dark Connecticut broadleaf from the Connecticut River Valley, which La Flor says honors its long history with broadleaf maduro wrappers. The company calls the result “a sweeter, richer, and darker Andalusian Bull.”
The tobacco underneath matters just as much. The binder and filler were grown on La Canela, La Flor’s own farm in the Dominican Republic. According to Cigar Aficionado, some of it comes from the 2016 crop and has been aging for ten years, including the binder and one of the filler leaves, and the blend includes tobacco grown from Pelo de Oro seed. La Flor told retailers the blend respects the original while adding depth and richness.
Litto Gomez put it simply to Cigar Aficionado: the new cigar still had to be an Andalusian Bull, but it looks darker and tastes sweeter. His hope is that fans love it as much as the original.

The packaging is new as well. The boxes are green and gold, the lid opens in a diamond pattern, and the front of the box is stamped 10th Anniversary. The bands are green, black and gold, with “andalusian bull” and 10th Anniversary printed under the LFD crest. La Flor has also shown retailers a new Andalusian Bull ashtray, round this time instead of the oval shape of the earlier one.
