Description

From Oscar Valladares’s Leaf by Oscar, the Leaf by Oscar Sumatra Sixty is a Sumatra-wrapped gordo, handmade in Honduras. Each cigar ships wrapped in a whole tobacco leaf instead of cellophane.

It blends an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Honduran binder and filler at a medium body, leading with earth, cedar, coffee, and a peppery, faintly sweet finish. At 6 by 60, it burns slow and cool, closer to an hour and a half than an hour.

Sumatra is what a blender reaches for to get colour without heat. It reads darker than it smokes, which catches out anyone who judges a cigar by how black the wrapper looks.

Pairs well with coffee, bourbon, or amber ale.
