Description

Diamond Crown is the luxury line of J.C. Newman. The name first appeared more than a century ago and came back in 1995 to mark the company’s 100th anniversary. The Double Robusto Maduro No. 4 is the 5 1/2 by 54 of the Maduro range, rolled in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera A. Fuente.

A genuine Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper is fermented twice, which deepens its color and takes away any rawness. Underneath sit a Dominican binder and a blend of five filler tobaccos from the Caribbean and Central America. It smokes medium in body with full flavor: sweet earth and dark cocoa first, then coffee and leather, with black pepper on the retrohale.

Connecticut Broadleaf is stalk cut, the whole plant cut and hung rather than picked leaf by leaf, then fermented hard. That is where the dark color and the sweetness come from, and why so little of the crop makes wrapper grade.
