Description

Davidoff first released the Aniversario line in 1986 to celebrate Zino Davidoff’s 80th birthday. The Special R is its robusto, and the R is there because it runs a little shorter than most robustos, 4 7/8 inches with a 50 ring.

An Ecuador wrapper covers Dominican binder and filler, with tobacco drawn from three different levels of the plant. Davidoff calls it a medium-intense cigar and rates it 2.5 out of 5.

Davidoff’s notes follow the cigar in thirds: cedar, cream and herbs at the start, roasted nuts with citrus and fresh spice through the middle, and walnut, cedar and a little spice at the end. The draw is easy and the smoke output is generous for the size, and it runs 45 to 60 minutes.

Davidoff pairs it with a brut champagne. It also works with coffee or cognac.
