Description

Zino Davidoff had the idea for Grand Cru in 1946: a line of cigars made the way Bordeaux wines are made, from the best leaves of carefully chosen fields. The name comes straight from the wine world.

The No.5 is the petit corona of the line, 4 inches with a 41 ring. An Ecuador wrapper covers Dominican binder and filler, and Davidoff rates it 2 out of 5 for intensity, mild and lightly floral with a nutty finish.

Davidoff’s notes follow the cigar in thirds: oak, cream and dried fruit at the start, hazelnut, wheat and licorice through the middle, and fresh spice, dried flowers and more oak at the end. Because it is short, the flavors change quickly. Plan on 20 to 30 minutes.

Davidoff pairs it with an oaked Bordeaux. It also works with coffee or cognac.
