From Oscar Valladares’s Leaf by Oscar, the Leaf by Oscar Sumatra Sixty is a Sumatra-wrapped gordo, handmade in Honduras. Each cigar ships wrapped in a whole tobacco leaf instead of cellophane.

It blends an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Honduran binder and filler at a medium body, leading with earth, cedar, coffee, and a peppery, faintly sweet finish. At 6 by 60, the thick ring keeps the smoke cool and rounded over a long burn.

Most Sumatra seed now grows in Ecuador rather than Indonesia, where the steady cloud cover suits it. In weight it sits between a Connecticut and a Habano, which makes it an easy wrapper to build a mid-strength cigar around.

Pairs well with coffee, bourbon, or amber ale.
