From Drew Estate’s Undercrown, the Liga Undercrown Connecticut Shade Coronets is a Connecticut-wrapped cigarillo, handmade in Nicaragua. Undercrown was created by Drew Estate’s own rollers, who wanted a daily smoke as good as the hard-to-find Liga Privada.

It blends an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Sumatra binder with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler at a mild to medium body, leading with cream, cedar, blanched almond, and a gentle white-pepper snap. At 4 by 32, the slim format pushes the wrapper forward and burns a touch faster.

Connecticut Shade is grown under cloth to keep the sun off, which keeps the leaf thin, pale and mild. Ecuador is the exception worth knowing: the cloud cover there sits low enough year round that growers skip the cloth entirely and let nature do it.

Pairs well with coffee, cream ale, or amber ale.
