Description

VSG stands for Virgin Sun Grown, the wrapper behind Ashton’s fullest line, and the Torpedo is its tapered size. Made by the Fuente family in the Dominican Republic, the Ashton VSG Torpedo sets a dark Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over Dominican binder and filler, at a full body.

The flavor usually runs to black pepper, espresso, cedar, and a sweet-earth base. It ranked No. 9 in Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2009. At 6 1/2 by 55, the torpedo tapers to a point that concentrates the first third.

The full body leans later in the day, and the pointed cap takes a straight or V cut. It is sold as singles or boxes of 24, so a single is a sensible way to gauge the strength. A full-bodied, sun-grown Ashton in a tapered size.
