Liga Privada began as exactly what the name says, a private blend. Steve Saka mixed it for himself at Drew Estate with no intention of selling it, and once word got around the demand pushed it into production. The No. 9 is that original blend, and the 5 x 54 robusto is its most familiar size. It wears a thick, oily sun-grown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, with Honduran and Nicaraguan filler underneath. The profile is full and dark from the first inch: espresso, dark cocoa, and cedar, with leather and pepper deepening through the middle, all carried on the heavy, oily smoke the line is known for. Production stays tight because the wrapper is scarce, so boxes move quickly. This is an evening cigar for a full-bodied palate. Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or a stout.
