Description

The Gurkha Year of the Dragon 2024 by Oliva is a San Andrés-wrapped salomon from the Oliva family, handmade in Nicaragua.

It blends a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Cameroon binder and Nicaraguan filler at a medium to full body, leading with cocoa, espresso, black pepper, and a sweet, almost-syrupy dark earth. At 6 1/2 by 60, the wide ring gives the smoke room to cool before it reaches you, so it smokes rounder than a slimmer size of the same blend.

San Andres turns up on so many Nicaraguan and Dominican cigars because it does one job better than any local leaf: it takes a maduro fermentation without breaking, and it comes out tasting of chocolate rather than char.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
