My Father is Jaime Garcia’s tribute to his own father, Jose “Pepin” Garcia, and it is the blend the family puts forward as its flagship. It is rolled at the family’s factory in Esteli, largely from tobacco grown on their own Nicaraguan farms.

A Cuban seed Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper covers Nicaraguan binder and filler, medium to full in body. Expect black pepper up front, then cedar, espresso and roasted nuts settling in behind it. At 5 1/4 by 52, the robusto keeps the blend tight and gets to the point.

Rosado describes the reddish cast of the wrapper, which comes from how the leaf is grown and cured. On a Habano seed leaf it usually signals the sweeter, spicier side of the plant, and here it is what keeps the Nicaraguan pepper underneath from reading as harsh.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
