Atabey
Atabey is the cigar that tells you almost nothing about itself, on purpose. It comes from Selected Tobacco and Nelson Alfonso, the designer behind the look of brands like Cohiba and Montecristo, who built his own ultra-premium house in Costa Rica. The name honors the supreme goddess of the TaÃno, the Caribbean people who first smoked tobacco in sacred ceremony.
The blend is a closely guarded secret: the company will not disclose the wrapper, binder, or filler, only that the cigars are rolled at Tabacos de Costa Rica and rested for at least five years after rolling, cleansed in chambers lined with several different cedars. What reaches you is a creamy, medium-bodied smoke of cedar, almond, and white pepper. Rare, expensive, and quietly confident, Atabey cigars are made for slow, undistracted smoking.
