Description

The Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Concerto Maestro is a soft box-pressed torpedo from Rafael Nodal’s Aging Room, made by AJ Fernandez in Estelí, Nicaragua. Concerto is the third blend in the Quattro Nicaragua family, after the original and Sonata, and like the rest of the brand its sizes carry musical names.

It pairs a caramel Nicaraguan Criollo ’98 wrapper, a hybrid grown on AJ Fernandez’s La Lilia farm in Estelí, with a Nicaraguan binder and filler that includes leaf from the first harvest of his Los Espejos farm. Medium to full in body, it leads with rich earth and coffee, with chestnut and a touch of spice underneath. At 6 by 52, the tapered head focuses the first third before the body opens up.

Criollo ’98 is a Cuban seed variety developed in the late 1990s for its resistance to disease. The Concerto wrapper is a hybrid of it, kept at a lighter caramel shade rather than the dark wrapper of the original Quattro Nicaragua.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or aged rum.
