Description

A broad box-pressed belicoso like this puts weight behind the blend early and keeps the shape changing as it burns.

El Pulpo by Artesano del Tobacco Belicoso Grande Box-Pressed is part of the original El Pulpo line, made in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez with a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. The cigar comes in 10-count boxes, and the core line launched with only three regular box-pressed sizes.

At 5 3/4 x 58, this vitola carries more body through the middle than the Robusto Grande and feels more substantial from the first third onward. The belicoso head also gives the cigar a narrower opening at the cut before the smoke broadens, which helps the blend feel more concentrated at the start.

The profile usually begins with pepper, dark chocolate, coffee bean, and citrus, then moves toward nuts, earth, and baking spice with a dense finish. Ranked No. 10 in Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2023, this is one of the defining El Pulpo sizes and one of the line’s strongest known releases.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
