Deadwood Tobacco began as a shop in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and Drew Estate now blends the line at La Gran Fabrica in Esteli. Leather Rose is the spiciest and fullest of the Deadwood blends, a dark Mexican San Andres wrapper over a binder and filler Drew Estate does not disclose, which is standard across most of the Deadwood range. The 5 x 54 torpedo tapers the head and concentrates everything early: cocoa and espresso first, then leather, earth and a dry, peppery edge that builds. It runs full-bodied but keeps the sweet-capped Deadwood character underneath, so it reads rich rather than punishing. An after-dinner cigar. Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or a porter.
