From Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s E.P. Carrillo, the EP Carrillo Pledge Apogee is a Connecticut-wrapped gordo, handmade in the Dominican Republic. Ernesto Perez-Carrillo built the brand after decades shaping modern premium cigars.

It blends a Connecticut Habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan filler at a full body, leading with cream, cedar, blanched almond, and a gentle white-pepper snap. At 6 1/4 by 58, it burns slow and cool, closer to an hour and a half than an hour.

A Habano wrapper is usually the peppery one in a line. Where a Connecticut reads as cream and a maduro as cocoa, Habano brings the black pepper and cedar people mean when they call a cigar spicy.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
