The Opus X Society blend, formally Opus X La Edición de la Sociedad, came out of a long partnership between Carlito Fuente Jr. and Cuban-born designer Manny Iriarte, the man behind the Opus X Society line of Fuente accessories. It is its own cigar within the Opus X family, a separate undisclosed blend rather than a new size of the standard release. This is the 6 1/4 x 49, rolled at Tabacalera Fuente in the Dominican Republic.

Opus X is famous as the first Dominican puro, built on a wrapper grown from Corojo seed at Chateau de la Fuente. For the Society, Carlito Fuente Jr. reworked that idea into something he calls deeper and earthier than the standard Opus X, wrapped in a dark, oily leaf and meant to be experienced rather than picked apart by seed. Expect a smoke that stays creamy and balanced, with earth, cedar, and a mellow pepper across a medium to medium-full body.

The presentation matches the cigar. The Society ships in a 20-count Spanish cedar humidor with an official Opus X Certificate of Authenticity, in strictly limited production, and like the rest of the Opus X line it does not sit on shelves for long. This is the blend Fuente made for the smokers who already know the name.

Pairs well with cognac, bourbon, or espresso.
