From AJ Fernandez, the Gurkha Year of the Dragon 2024 by AJ Fernandez is a Habano-wrapped box-pressed toro, handmade in Nicaragua.

It blends an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler at a medium to full body, leading with cedar, black pepper, espresso, and a sweet, leathery spice. At 6 5/8 by 52, the box press gives it crisp edges and a slow, even burn.

Habano is the most planted premium wrapper outside Cuba, less out of fashion than reliability. It takes to Nicaraguan and Ecuadorian ground without losing the Cuban character.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
