A 2023 addition to the original Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial line, the Gordo Extra pushes the blend into the line’s largest format yet.

The vitola debuted at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show, joining the Corona Grande and Figurado as part of a three-size lineup expansion. Like the rest of the line, the cigar carries a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and a Nicaraguan long-filler core grown on Garcia family farms in Estelí. Production runs at My Father Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua, under Jaime Garcia. The Gordo Extra measures 7 by 70 at medium-to-full body, packaged in boxes of 14.

Expect dark chocolate, leather, and dark earth up front, with espresso, dark fruit, and cedar through the middle before the finish picks up black pepper and a hint of cream. The combination of seven-inch length and 70 ring gauge produces an extended burn time and heavy smoke output, with the Broadleaf wrapper’s sweeter character developing more depth as the cigar progresses. The size suits an evening session without a time constraint.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
