Robusto Cigars

A robusto cigar measures 5 inches by a 50 ring gauge, which is 127 mm long and 19.8 mm thick, and it smokes for 45 to 60 minutes. Lengths run 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches at a 48 to 52 ring gauge depending on the brand. It is the most popular cigar shape in America and a sound default if you are not sure where to start. Short enough to finish in under an hour, thick enough to give a full, cool draw. That balance is why almost every brand builds one, and why blenders often treat it as the reference size when judging a new blend. If you want to try a line before committing to a box, the robusto is the format to buy first. Against a toro the thickness is identical; the toro simply adds an inch and about twenty minutes. Against a corona at 5 1/2 x 42 the robusto is far thicker, so the filler leads and the wrapper’s spice sits further back.
