Description

The Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Gran Consul is a Criollo-wrapped gordo from Joya de Nicaragua, the country’s oldest cigar maker, handmade in Nicaragua. Joya de Nicaragua has rolled cigars in Estelí since 1968.

It blends a Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler at a full body, leading with cedar, sweet spice, toasted almond, and a soft pepper. At 4 3/4 by 60, the wide ring gives the smoke room to cool before it reaches you, so it smokes rounder than a slimmer size of the same blend.

Criollo means native, and it was the original Cuban tobacco before growers started breeding for particular traits. Criollo 98 is the modern version, bred in Cuba for disease resistance and then planted across Nicaragua and Honduras.
