Much of the country’s tobacco grows in the Jamastran Valley and around Danlí, close to the Nicaraguan border, in conditions that suit Cuban-seed Corojo, and that heritage gives Honduran cigars their earthy, leathery character with a bit of spice. The flavor tends to run full and savory rather than sweet, which is why Honduran leaf so often anchors bold blends. Makers like Camacho, the Eiroa family’s Aladino, and Rocky Patel’s El Paraiso factory built their names here, and the Plasencia family has deep roots in Honduran tobacco as well. For smokers who like earth and body over polish, Honduran cigars deliver a lot of character for the money.
