Foundation Olmec Maduro Corona Gorda 5 1/2″ * 48

Dark cocoa, roasted coffee, and earth are the usual lane for this one. Foundation Olmec Maduro Corona Gorda is a Nicaraguan-made cigar in the Olmec line, rolled in a 5 1/2 x 48 corona gorda and typically packaged in 12-count boxes. Blended by Nicholas Melillo, it uses a Mexican San Andrés Negro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Estelí and Jalapa, with the fillers bale-aged for about three years before rolling.

Olmec was introduced as a regular-production series built around San Andrés tobacco and the Olmec name tied to ancient Mesoamerican culture. The Maduro version leans deeper and darker than the Claro release within the same family. The flavor usually starts with toast and cocoa sweetness, shifts into espresso-like roast with a core of cedar and earth, and ends with pepper and a darker, molasses-leaning finish.

It suits smokers who like a medium-full maduro but prefer a traditional corona gorda format instead of a big ring gauge. This size works well after a meal, and it also fits a late-afternoon slot with a slower pace. If stronger cigars are also in rotation, this can sit in the medium-full lane before stepping up; stock singles to dial it in, or go with a box when the richer end of the humidor needs a steady regular.

Pair it with sparkling mineral water and a squeeze of lime.
