A shorter, wider entry in the Sarzedas relaunch, the Robusto compresses the brand’s aromatic blend into a more concentrated format.

Sarzedas was one of J.C. Newman’s earliest brands, first rolled in 1900 and revived in 2025 by fourth-generation owner Drew Newman as a 125-year tribute. Master blender Rich Dolak built the modern recipe around a silky Ecuadorian Shade wrapper, with binder and long-filler tobaccos drawn from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, plus a sweetened cap that connects the new cigar to the brand’s historic Aromatic Cigar identity. The cigars are hand-rolled at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Robusto measures 4 3/4 by 52, sitting mild-to-medium.

The flavor tends to open with caramel sweetness from the sweet cap layered over cream and light cedar, with roasted nut, leather, and a touch of pepper through the middle before a finish carrying dry wood and a clean tobacco close. The 52 ring gauge gives the wrapper and filler closer balance, with the Ecuadorian Shade’s softer character keeping the body in check across the burn. The shorter length fits a 45-minute to one-hour session.

Pairs well with coffee, bourbon, or porter.
