J.C. Newman

Sarzedas Toro 6″ * 50

A modern revival of a brand J.C. Newman first rolled in 1900, the Sarzedas Toro brings back a name once marketed across America as The Aromatic Cigar.

The relaunched line was blended by Rich Dolak, J.C. Newman’s vice president of operations, who has worked with the Newman family on blends for nearly three decades. The cigar pairs a silky Ecuadorian Shade wrapper with binder and long-filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, finished with a sweetened cap that ties the modern blend back to the original brand’s aromatic identity. Production runs at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Toro measures 6 by 50 and sits at the mild-to-medium end of the body scale.

The flavor tends to lean toward cream, light cedar, and roasted nuts at the start, with a touch of caramel sweetness from the sweet tip running through the early portion before the profile settles into leather, dry wood, and a soft pepper across the second half as the cap sweetness eases. The 50 ring gauge keeps the smoke output moderate and the Ecuadorian Shade wrapper character forward. The format runs a standard hour-and-a-half pace.

Pairings: bourbon, espresso, or aged white rum.
