The Maduro is the darker counterpart to Foundation’s Aksum Claro, and the Robusto is its standard size. The Foundation Aksum Maduro Robusto is made by AJ Fernandez for Nick Melillo, with a darker wrapper over a Connecticut broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan filler, box-pressed at a medium to full body.

The flavor usually leans toward cocoa, coffee, cedar, and a sweet, peppery base, richer than the Claro. At 5 by 50, the box-pressed robusto burns cool and slow.

The medium to full body suits later in the day. It is sold as singles or boxes of 10, so a single is an easy first taste. A darker, box-pressed Aksum from Foundation.
