J.C. Newman

Sarzedas Churchill 7″ * 48

The longest format in the relaunched Sarzedas lineup, the Churchill stretches the brand’s mild aromatic blend across a seven-inch frame.

J.C. Newman trademarked Sarzedas in 1916, with the original line in production as early as 1900 and known a century ago as The Aromatic Cigar. The 2025 relaunch keeps that aromatic identity through a sweetened cap, paired with a silky Ecuadorian Shade wrapper over Dominican and Nicaraguan binder and long-filler tobacco. Rich Dolak, J.C. Newman’s vice president of operations, handled the blend, with production running at the PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Churchill measures 7 by 48 and sits mild-to-medium.

Expect cream, cedar, and a soft caramel sweetness from the sweet tip at the start, with roasted nut and light leather building through the middle before a finish that picks up dry wood, a touch of pepper, and a clean tobacco close once the sweetened cap eases. The 48 ring gauge keeps the wrapper character forward across the long burn, with the lighter body fitting the extended format better than a fuller blend would. The size suits an unhurried two-hour smoke.

Pairings: bourbon, espresso, or aged white rum.
