Handmade in Nicaragua, the H. Upmann Nicaragua AJ Fernandez Heritage Toro is a Brazilian Mata Fina-wrapped toro from AJ Fernandez. AJ Fernandez learned to grow and blend tobacco from his grandfather in Cuba before building one of Nicaragua’s most sought-after factories.

It blends a Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan and Brazilian filler at a medium to full body, leading with cedar, coffee, black pepper, and a sweet, earthy core. At 6 by 54, it burns cool and even.

Nicaragua grows on volcanic soil, and the valleys each read differently: Esteli for strength, Jalapa for sweetness, Condega in between. Most Nicaraguan blends are built by mixing them.

Pairs well with bourbon, espresso, or porter.
