Toscano

Toscano is Italy’s own cigar, and it tastes like nothing else. The story starts in Florence in 1815, when a batch of Kentucky tobacco left outdoors got soaked by a summer storm and fermented in the heat. Rather than throw it out, the factory rolled the fermented leaf into cheap cigars, and that accident became the signature taste of the Toscano. Made today by Manifatture Sigaro Toscano in Lucca and Cava de’ Tirreni, Toscano cigars are built from fire-cured Kentucky tobacco and water, nothing else, and shaped into a craggy, tapered cheroot that many smokers snap in half before lighting. They are dry-cured, so they keep without a humidor. Bold, earthy, and unmistakably Tuscan, Toscano is a tradition all its own.
